The initiative for the founding of the Grafikstiftung Neo Rauch (Foundation of graphic works), that was jointly founded by the City of Aschersleben, the artist Neo Rauch as well as Gerd Harry Lybke and Kerstin Wahala of Galerie EIGEN + ART was a gift of the artist Neo Rauch to his hometown Aschersleben: Neo Rauch has donated one edition of his complete graphic work up to now to the city.
The artist who was brought up in Aschersleben visited his hometown on occasion of an exhibition of his students during the “Landesgartenschau” (county garden festival) in 2010. In a conversation with the Mayor Andreas Michelmann, Prof. Arno Lederer, Gerd Harry Lybke and Kerstin Wahala of Galerie EIGEN + ART, the artist expressed the wish to closely link his name to his hometown. The idea of giving the city graphic works for an exhibition quickly came about in the conversation.
With the foundation that was established in 2012 having its seat in Aschersleben it was made possible to show the artist’s graphic work that has been created since 1993 in a comprehensive and focused way. Additionally, one edition of all future graphic works by Neo Rauch will be donated to the foundation.
On Friday, May 4, 2012, the Minister of the Interior of Saxony-Anhalt Holger Stahlknecht presented the certificate of recognition to the chairwoman of the board of the foundation Kerstin Wahala and the Mayor of the City of Aschersleben Andreas Michelmann in Dessau-Roßlau. From June 1, 2012, the foundation has taken up their residence and the first exhibition titled “Neo Rauch – the graphic work – part one” was opened. The exhibition will run through March 3, 2013. The graphic works of the artist, who lives in Leipzig and was brought up in Aschersleben, will be presented in changing exhibitions in the “Riegelbau” in the city’s Bestehornpark.
